Stargazing In Phoenix

When Darkness Comes, Experience
Outer Space Millions of Light Years Away.

Stargazing at galaxies millions of light years away. It's mind boggling. Many of the twinkling stars we see tonight actually became extinct millions of years ago. Stargazing the night sky above the Phoenix area has become a popular past-time for people of all ages to enjoy the mysteries of what lies above. There are places both within Phoenix and in the outer areas of its Sonoran Desert to explore and learn about our universe of galaxies, stars, planets, meteor showers, the moon, the Milky Way and the mystery of black holes in outer space millions of light years away.

Stargazing In The City.

A great friend is The Challenger Space Center in Metro Phoenix, a Smithsonian Affiliate that sponsors frequent space-themed activities and interactive stargazing through high-powered telescopes. These fun-filled family events include Stargazing Fun Nights where food is available for a nominal fee before the telescopes are setup. Enjoy slide presentations all about the constellations and stories of the night sky above Phoenix. Bring your blankets and chairs and experience close-up views of the galaxy heavens above. Stargazing events are free with general admission and with advance notice, disabled accommodations and sigh-language interpreters can be provided.

For families with younger children that may not stay awake for nighttime stargazing, the Arizona Science Center offers daytime learning programs in its Planetarium.

At the JW Marriot Desert Ridge Resort and Spa, join Richard Allen each Thursday night for his unique stargazing event that combines astronomy, storytelling and telescopes. The activity is complimentary for guests of the resort.

At the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale, join its stargazing specialist and view the stars through a professional telescope. Learn the secrets of lunar and planetary geology and spend an enlightening, educational and entertaining evening under the stars.

Stargazing Adventure Tours.

For the more adventurous, there are off-road expedition tours that offer even more specific ways to view celestial bodies. Professional tour companies feature excursions aboard Hummers through the desert surroundings with knowledgeable guides while you enjoy the beauty of the Sonoran Desert while making your way to the crystal clear night skies at remote locations. View the galaxy heavens above through telescopes into the brilliant starlit sky. Some tour companies even provide night vision goggles enabling incredible views of desert mountain wildlife in complete darkness.
