Day Trip To The Grand Canyon South RimIf you're staying in Phoenix or Scottsdale area, do yourself a favor and take a day trip to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Grand Canyon is about 235 miles (one way) from Phoenix. The drive takes about 4.5 hours depending upon the origination point in the Valley of the Sun. The trip can make for a very long day, so leave early. The best plan is staying overnight so you can spend an entire day discovering the total experience of the Canyon. We recommend a "Loop Tour" by entering at Grand Canyon Village and exiting at the eastern-most end of the Canyon. Grand Canyon Loop TourIt will be a breathtaking and soul-enriching experience. The Canyon is is massive. Beyond comprehension. Stand in awe of what took mother nature millions upon millions of years to sculpt. Enter the South Rim of the Grand Canyon at Grand Canyon Village. It is the busiest part of the South Rim. Stroll the edge of the Rim Trail. Walk out on the Yavapai Observation Station. Soak-up the views from Kolb Studio. Join the folks at Mather Lookout Point. Watch the Grand Canyon Train arrive and disembark. To get differing perspectives, head east along Desert View Drive as it meanders in and out of lookout points as it makes its 26 mile journey to the eastern-most edge of the Grand Canyon. The east end is less crowded yet features some of the most spectacular views. Head back south to Flagstaff. Stop by the Cameron Trading Post on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Have a bite to eat and shop. You will see views of the eastern side of the Painted Desert. On your way to Flagstaff, catch the views of the San Francisco Peaks, the highest mountain range in Arizona at 12,300 feet. Either spend the night in Flagstaff or continue the journey back to the Phoenix area.
